AMR4 - Week 2 Challenge

My, my, that was certainly an exciting start to the Amazing Mutant Race 4. Simon, our official time keeper, declared the winner to be Nathan Petrelli. That means Nathan gets to post who he chooses to Yield this round. The person he chooses will then have a 30 minute penalty, delaying their start of the next leg.

Before I give you your instructions for this week, there is one little piece of housekeeping that I have to take care of. Someone’s mutant partner is going to be confined to the infirmary for the next few weeks. That would be Gambit, whom Jan blew up. In addition to suffering a half hour delay of start time penalty for the next leg, she must also be assigned a new mutant partner. I was going to let her have Colossus, who has been rather eager to play and is slightly more durable than Gambit, but I had a visit from another mutant who expressed, rather forcefully, a strong desire to play. The fact is, I didn’t want to let him compete but he’s already eaten half of the food stores at the school so I really can’t have him waiting here any longer. That means Jan’s new partner will be . .



The Blob. Good luck. Don’t forget, he needs to be fed at least 10 times a day or, well, let’s just say we might have another Wendigo on our hands.

Now for this week’s race. The start point is the General Store in Moose Jaw. Each team will drive their Ford Expeditions north, to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. You will then swap out your vehicles for Neoteric Hovertrek 6 hovercrafts which you will use to continue your journey north across the Beaufort Sea to the North Pole. Attached to the Pole you will find the directions for the Detour.




A Detour presents a choice between two tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Once a task has been completed, the contestants must then race to the Pit Stop. In this Detour, the teams must chose between Rays and Plays.

In Rays, you will assist SHIELD in determining the level of hazard posed by some recently uncovered alien space crafts that crashed near the Pole. The ships are carrying ores of unknown origins that emit highly unusual radiation. The radiation has been determined to have temporary transitory properties. The level of radiation is in no way fatal, but just what effect beyond that which it will have on humanoids is unknown. In this task, each team must expose themselves to the radiation so that the effects can be observed. Based on the levels of radiation, the effects should not last more than one hour. Your cameraperson will record what happens.





In Plays, you will travel across the frozen wastes to Santa Claus’s workshop. As you know, Christmas is coming up and Santa’s elves are busy making toys for all the good boys and girls. Santa is a little concerned though because he hasn’t yet hit on the next big thing for this holiday season. In this task, each team must design the next big toy, a sure fire guaranteed hit. Santa must be satisfied with your prototype or back to the drawing board.



Once your chosen task is completed you will receive directions from either Nick Fury or Santa Claus to the Pit Stop for this leg of the race, weather outpost Ice Station Zebra.

Midnight Friday for me is 12 hours earlier than everyone else baldy.

I get it at the same time as everyone else but I have to hand it in 12 hours earlier than everyone else. Friday midnight for me is Saturday morning.

So, since I got the yield, and consequently a 30 minute delay, can I go ahead and blow up Cyclops too?

Despite all this talk about time zone differences, I'm still convinced the world is flat.
